  New Nutanix cluster, from rack to production

  Enterprise client, new datacenter hardware, team new to Nutanix.

  Problem

  Hardware was delivered, but the in-house team had no Nutanix experience to deploy or run it.

  What I did

  • Imaged nodes with Foundation and created the cluster
  • Registered it to Prism Central, set up networks and storage containers
  • Configured AD authentication, DNS, NTP and alerting
  • Wrote the runbook and trained the team

  Result

  Cluster in production on schedule, and the team runs it day to day on their own.

  Platform upgrades with zero VM downtime

  Several production clusters running versions well behind current.

  Problem

  Upgrades were postponed for fear of outages, leaving the platform exposed to known bugs and out of support.

  What I did

  • Ran pre-checks and checked the compatibility matrix
  • Planned the upgrade order: firmware, AOS, AHV, Prism Central
  • Ran rolling upgrades with LCM inside maintenance windows
  • Validated cluster health after each step

  Result

  All clusters back on supported versions, with no VM downtime.

  Disaster recovery between two sites, tested

  Client with two datacenters on Nutanix AHV.

  Problem

  Backups only, with no tested recovery and no known recovery time if a site failed.

  What I did

  • Defined protection policies per application tier
  • Set up replication between the two sites
  • Built recovery plans with VM boot order and network mapping
  • Ran a test failover and wrote the DR runbook

  Result

  DR tested end to end and documented. The team knows exactly what to do if a site goes down.

  Network segmentation with Flow

  Production environment with a flat network.

  Problem

  Every VM could reach every other VM, so one compromised machine put everything at risk.

  What I did

  • Mapped real application traffic
  • Created categories and Flow security policies per application
  • Ran policies in monitor mode first to catch missed flows
  • Switched to enforce mode once traffic was clean

  Result

  Applications isolated from each other, with no broken services during the switch.

  Replacing legacy file servers with Nutanix Files and Objects

  Client running old Windows file servers and a separate backup target.

  Problem

  Aging servers, scattered shares, and storage that was hard to manage and grow.

  What I did

  • Deployed Nutanix Files with SMB and NFS shares, integrated with AD
  • Set quotas and permissions, migrated the data
  • Deployed Nutanix Objects as a backup target
  • Decommissioned the old servers

  Result

  File and backup storage consolidated on Nutanix, simpler to manage and scale.

  On-prem Kubernetes with NKP

  Dev teams needing Kubernetes inside the company network.

  Problem

  No on-prem container platform, and no private place to store images.

  What I did

  • Deployed NKP clusters on Nutanix AHV

  • Documented cluster access and deployment for the dev teams

  Result

  Teams deploy containers on-prem, with images kept inside the network.
